Industry-Events at SoundTrack_Zurich
(Sep 29 – Oct 02, 2020)
Networking sessions and exchanging knowledge with industry experts are at the core of SoundTrack_Zurich (STZ), which takes place as part of the 16th Zurich Film Festival: Topics include conflict management, trends in sync and production music, music supervision, self-promotion & PR and collecting societies know how. In the practical hands-on workshop “Composing for Film with Artificial Intelligence”, organized by the FOCAL foundation, composer and A.I. researcher Janne Spijkervet will demonstrate new creative ways of creating music with artificial intelligence. All seminars and panels are of course subject of the security measures of the Corona protection concept.
Self-promotion and music licensing
Talent and composing skills do not necessarly bring jobs and clients. STZ has therefore brought two PR professionals on board: Thomas Mikusz (White Bear PR) and Valerie Dobbelaere (Post Bills PR) will reveal tips and tricks on pitching, self-marketing, PR and acquisition tools in a workshop on Thursday, October 1st. Also on Thursday, two panels will cover aspects of music licensing: Lysander Gelewski (Business Manager My Music Rights) and attorney Ama Walton will introduce the basics. Music publishers Martin Häne (Nuvotone) and Horea Pascu (Blue Island Music) as well as music supervisor Martin Nedvěd (Studio Fontána) will talk to moderator Corinna Poeszus about trends in sync and production music.
In the two event blocks "Meet international Music Supervisors" the music supervisors Catherine Grieves (Faber Music), Jérôme Brunner (SRF), Milena Fessmann and Mounir Hathout will be introduced. The lawyers Ama Walton and Dr. Kai-Peter Uhlig will talk with composer Lionel Baldenweg about approaches to conflict management - e.g. between producers, directors, composers, broadcasters etc.
Hands on workshop about Artificial Intelligence
The topic of Artificial Intelligence is penetrating more and more areas of music. Regarding that topic composer and A.I. researcher Janne Spijkervet will demonstrate how to use the latest A.I. technology in the creative workflow when writing music for film. The workshop is free for all accredited participants of SoundTrack_Zurich, however, a separate registration is necessary under: https://www.soundtrackzurich.com/ai-tools-workshop/.
Networking through matchmaking events
The STZ industry program also includes "Speedmatching" or "Matchmaking", which enables industry experts and creative professionals to engage in a targeted exchange. On Wednesday, September 30, as a start into the conference, accredited STZ participants can meet other STZ participants at the "Speedmatching”, a registration is not necessary. The "Matchmaking", which will take place on Wednesday afternoon, is aimed at women and links female composers and sound designers with female directors, music supervisors, publishers and producers. A registration is required at www.soundtrackzurich.com. In the "Matchmaking Break" on Thursday, October 1, the STZ speakers will meet, among others, visitors and participants of the ZFF Academy. No advance registration is necessary here.
