SoundTrack_Zurich 02 announces programme
SoundTrack_Zurich (28.09. - 01.10.21) presents over 30 events in its second edition - including talks with renowned composers, case studies on current film and series hits, matchmaking and networking sessions as well as special screenings and concerts with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich.
Guest of honor is Mychael Danna (Academy Award for ‘Life of Pi’), who will receive the Career Achievement Award at the 17th Zurich Film Festival.

Film Composer Talk Mychael Danna
Guest of honor is Mychael Danna (Academy Award for ‘Life of Pi’), who will receive the Career Achievement Award at the 17th Zurich Film Festival. The Canadian will talk about his scores at SoundTrack_Zurich on Wednesday, September 29.
Danna, who also presides the jury of the 9th International Film Music Competition, will be present at the Award Ceremony on September 30 at the Tonhalle Zurich.

Film Composer Talk Volker Bertelmann aka Hauschka
Volker Bertelmann aka Hauschka has already contributed music to numerous cinema productions and series, such as ‘Your Honor’ (2020) or the science fiction thriller ‘Stowaway’ (2021). On Thursday, September 30 Hauschka will review his work process on a panel at SoundTrack_Zurich and he will take part in a case study about ‘Monte Verità’ on Friday, October 1.

Lele Marchitelli is known, among other things, for his collaboration with the award-winning director Paolo Sorrentino (ZFF A Tribute to.... Award 2021). SoundTrack_Zurich will present a case study with Lele Marchitelli about his Sky/HBO series ‘The Young Pope’ and ‘The New Pope’.

Anne-Sophie Versnaeyen, who has written the score for the third part of the successful spy comedy, will talk about the spy parody ‘OSS 117: Alerte rouge en Afrique Noire’ will talk with composer Adina Friis about her work on the French agent parody.

Film Composer Talk Dominik Scherrer
Dominik Scherrer scored his biggest success with the Netflix hit ‘The Serpent’ (2021). The London based Swiss composer will present the highly acclaimed thriller series and his work in a case study at SoundTrack_Zurich.

Film Composer Talk Diego Baldenweg with Nora Baldenweg & Lionel Baldenweg
The successful composer trio Diego Baldenweg with Nora Baldenweg & Lionel Baldenweg has composed scores for over 20 films (‘The Little Witch‘, ‘Head Full of Honey‘). SoundTrack_Zurich presents a panel with the siblings, who this year also composed the new audio branding of the Zurich Film Festival.
They will be honoured with a Baldenweg film music medley at the International Film Music Competition Award Ceremony on Thursday, September 30.

Case Study Monte Veritá
The Swiss drama ‘Monté Veritá’ (2021) premiered at the major film festival Locarno. Composer Hauschka, director Stefan Jäger, sound designer and re-recording mixer Gina Keller and sound engineer Reto Stamm will talk about their joint work on the history drama in a case study.

Case Study The Billion Dollar Code
Composers Uwe Bossenz and Anton Feist, director and writer Robert Thalheim, writer Oliver Ziegenbalg, producer Andreas Banz and music supervisor Milena Fessmann will talk about their newest project, the Netflix series ‘The Billion Dollar Code’. The series will be presented as a world premiere at the 17th Zurich Film Festival. (Friday, October 1 at 15.30, Kosmos 6 - admission free, a ticket is required for entry).

Case Study Burning Memories
Direction, screenplay, production and score: Alice Schmid carried many of the pillars of the documentary 'Burning Memories' - in this intimate work she deals with her own history of abuse. For her work, she was awarded the Swiss Film Award 2021 for Best Film Score. Schmid will talk about her work in a case study at SoundTrack_Zurich.

On Thursday, September 30, the music supervisors Beda Senn (SRF), Milena Fessmann (Cinesong), Catherine Grieves (Faber Music) and Pirmin Marti (Mojo 3) will evaluate and give their feedback on submitted songs. Those who want to participate, have to send their HI-Res.mp3 files until September 26 at presse@soundtrackzurich.com (max. three tracks pro participant). The tracks should either be decidedly suitable as production music for TV reports and documentaries or as ‘additional music’ or songs in film; general film music stylistics are not desired.

International Film Music Competition 2021
The Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich will play the compositions of the three nominees of the 9th International Film Music Competition under the baton of Frank Strobel. In honour of Mychael Danna, who will receive the ZFF Career Achievement Award in the evening, music from his films will be performed. In addition, the Baldenweg trio will be honoured with a medley of their film music, with the support of Fondation Suisa.

One night, as he roams the squalid alleys, he meets a mysterious girl – with a bloody secret… Amirpour’s great feature debut is scored live by Reverend Beat-Man and Milan Slick – an atmospheric melange consisting of guitar sounds and electronic beats.

SoundTrack_Zurich
SoundTrack_Zurich is a European film music conference taking place during the Zurich Film Festival. SoundTrack_Zurich presents the work of Swiss and European film composers at eye level with their international colleagues.The two day conference hosts an array of panels, networking sessions, case studies and workshops revolving around current film music topics. Further highlights are live concerts and special film screenings.
SoundTrack_Zurich is organised by the Swiss Media Composers Association in close collaboration with the Zurich Film Festival, SoundTrack_Cologne, Forum Filmmusik, Tonhalle-Gesellschaft Zürich, IMMSANE, ZHdK and Montreux Jazz Festival.

Zurich Film Festival
The Zurich Film Festival (ZFF) is the largest fall film festival in the German-speaking world. Over 11 days it presents the greatest discoveries and the year’s most anticipated movies. The ZFF facilitates exchange between upcoming directors, established filmmakers, the film industry and the general public. In the year of Corona 2020, the ZFF was able with great success to implement a physical and comprehensive 165-film programme, attracting 68’000 viewers (2019: 117’000) and thousands of accredited film and media workers from across (almost) the entire globe.
The 17th edition takes place from September 23 until October 03, 2021. The programme will be released on September 9 and tickets will be available from September 19. – Time to Fall in Love With Movies!
