Big success: The third edition of SoundTrack_Zurich
Over three and a half days, SoundTrack_Zurich 03 (STZ) received 1,250 visits in its 28 panels. With 62 speakers and 240 accreditations, the music congress, which took place in the framework of the Zurich Film Festival Industry Program, addressed relevant topics for film music composers.
The Zurich Film Festival broke its record number of visitors this year, with 137,000, and STZ was a fundamental part of this. According to Michael P. Aust, head of STZ, "the growth of the ZFF and the integration of STZ to its industry program stimulates the creation of a unique networking opportunity for the Swiss and European film and film music scene. Building ties to generate job opportunities and collaborations between filmmakers and film music makers is one of the main goals of STZ - we are very glad to have achieved an open atmosphere that inspired people to connect." Pierre Funck, president of the Forum Filmmusik, highlights the important role of the sponsors and financiers of STZ: "A special thanks for your commitment and input to the event!"
STZ focused on sound and music in film with matchmaking sessions, workshops, discussions, case studies and live events. In this edition, five panels concentrated on SYNC. Other panels addressed current issues, e.g. how much money composers can expect for the streaming of music or how to negotiate licenses for new platforms. This way, STZ offers lots of knowledge and intelligence. Eight events concentrated on networking; among them, the Matchmaking for Women in Media, that successfully achieved 80 matches between producers, directors and film composers. The Swiss Music Export Business Mixer, with almost 120 participants, was another highlight.
Oscar-winning film composer Rachel Portman (Chocolat, The Cider House Rules), trumpet player Nils Petter Molvær (European Film Award 2021 Best Score) and Fatima Dunn (Swiss Film Award 2022 Best Score) were some of the distinguished experts who shared the secrets of their creations at our workshop talks. The score of the new hit series, e.g. THE SANDMAN and TSCHUGGER, were analyzed in case studies.
SoundTrack_Zurich is organized by Forum Filmmusik in cooperation with Zurich Film Festival (ZFF), Tonhalle Zürich, ZHdK, and SoundTrack_Cologne.
